About James City County Office of Housing and Community Development

James City County Office of Housing and Community Development staff takes great pride in providing the most effective and efficient service to our citizens in need.

The department is charged with addressing affordable housing and neighborhood improvement needs and works closely with federal, state, other local agencies, community organizations, and the private sector to offer a wide range of housing assistance services to low- and moderate-income County residents.

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher

This program is a Federally funded rent-subsidy program that provides ongoing rental assistance to qualified lower-income families or individuals.

Participants lease privately owned single-family homes, town homes, apartments, and manufactured homes. Eligible families or individuals must complete a preliminary application to be placed on the waiting list for assistance. At this time, our Section 8 waiting list is CLOSED.
